ALDI, Inc. signed a lease with Continental Properties Company, Inc. for 17,000 square feet of space in Continental's Costco-anchored Grafton Commons shopping center. Grafton Commons was awarded First Place by the Milwaukee Business Journal for the 2009 Best New Retail Development. This shopping center is located at the northwest corner of County Highway 60 and Port Washington Road in Grafton, Wisconsin.
Batavia, Illinois-based ALDI Inc. was recently named PL Buyer's 2009 Retailer of the Year and is rapidly expanding into many upscale communities throughout the country. ALDI will join Costco, Kohl's, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, PetSmart, and Michael's in Grafton Commons.
The 17,000 square-foot store will be similar to the recently opened store in Brookfield. It will feature a select assortment of high quality groceries with a pricing strategy designed to help customers stretch their grocery dollars. The "keep it simple" operational approach has been successful for ALDI and has fueled increased expansion over the past several years. ALDI plans to open 100 new stores in 2009, mostly in Florida and Texas; they currently operate approximately 1,000 stores in 29 states.
