One of the biggest topics discussed during Continental's first Challenge Meetings in 2015 was what to do with all of the new people we would need to support our growth. Space in our home office was getting very tight, with not much room for new team members. After deliberating on many options, we decided to turn our third-floor storage area into new office space.
ICSC RECon is the largest annual trade show for retailers. It takes place every May in Las Vegas, and once again, Continental Properties was in attendance. Our team returned, as we always do, exhilarated by new opportunities and better informed about the state of retail development. The challenges for brick and mortar stores are not new. Many retailers are still struggling with how to drive traffic to their stores from e-commerce sites. Many big boxes sit empty. Very few regional malls are being planned. All of these factors, and others, contribute to downward pressure on rents. In addition, construction costs continue to rise.
In 2013, Steve Beine joined Continental fresh out of UW Whitewater in the newly created role of Finance Coordinator. From the start, he demonstrated the desire and ability to quickly learn about our business and entrench himself in the company with his strong work ethic and team mentality. In his present role as a Finance Analyst, Steve has continued to thrive by working with all areas of the company to generate insightful analysis and facilitate the flow of information.
Continental Properties team members are raising funds for Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, a local chapter of the national organization that honors our Veterans by flying them to Washington, DC to view the various war memorials.
Kristen Beckwith has recently transitioned to the position of Multifamily Operations Coordinator. Kristen may be new to Continental's Home Office, but she is a familiar face at our Springs communities.
As Continental grows, both numerically and geographically, it is becoming increasingly important for our company’s leadership to receive real-time feedback from employees throughout the entire organization. To achieve this we are implementing an innovative employee feedback tool – Loop. Powered by Workplace Dynamics, LLC, Loop is a system developed to facilitate and open the lines of communication between employees and the organization’s leadership – getting the right feedback to the right people at the right time.
