MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Continental Properties is proud to share that its Chief Executive Officer, Jim Schloemer, has been elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Board. The announcement was made at the NMHC 2024 Annual Meeting, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California, on January 30, 2024.

Jim Schloemer, along with Steve Wagner, SVP of Acquisitions, and Rich Bell, founded Continental Properties in 1979. Jim’s leadership has been instrumental in the company’s rise as a leading national real estate developer and operator, specializing in rental home communities, retail, and hospitality. Having served as an Officer on the NMHC Board for the last six years, Jim’s election as Chair of the NMHC board reflects his commitment to advancing the multifamily housing industry.  Reflecting on his election, Jim shared his intentions for the new role:

"The apartment and rental home industry plays a vital role in providing quality housing for over one-third of our country’s population. At the same time, we face a shortage of housing that is financially attainable for our growing workforce. I look forward to working with NMHC members and staff and policymakers at the local, state, and federal level to help meet America’s rental housing needs."

In addition to Jim’s election as the Council’s Chair, Continental is pleased to announce that the company’s Chief Development and Construction Officer, Executive Vice President Kim Grimm, has taken on the role of Chair of the Workforce Housing Committee at NMHC.

Kim's appointment highlights her expertise and influence in the development and construction aspects of the multifamily housing sector. Her leadership on the Workforce Housing Committee will contribute to shaping policies and strategies addressing the critical need for attainable and workforce housing.

Kim shared her enthusiasm about the opportunity:

"Heading the Workforce Housing Committee at NMHC is an important responsibility, and I am eager to contribute to the discussion and implementation of strategies that ensure the availability and affordability of quality housing. It aligns with Continental Properties' mission to build communities that enhance people’s lives, and I look forward to making a positive impact in this new capacity."

During the NMHC Annual Meeting, Continental Properties team members had the opportunity to engage with industry peers, attend informative sessions, and gain insights into the latest trends and innovations shaping the multifamily housing landscape. Discussions illuminated key market trends, emphasizing rent growth and customer behavior analysis, with a notable focus on affordable housing solutions and data-driven conversations — areas where Continental Properties continues to lead. The event also featured powerful speakers at the Women’s Conference, providing valuable topics around relationship building, leadership, and embracing individuality in the workplace.

“I am appreciative that Continental invests in employees like me, providing an opportunity to experience the world of multifamily outside of Continental’s four walls at NMHC,” said Erin Conway, Senior Development Director. “I was able to attend the Women’s Conference, where I was particularly impressed with the discussion on having courageous conversations - embracing the discomfort - to optimize decision-making and overall company success.”

Paul Vastag, Continental’s Vice President of Business Intelligence reflects on his observations at NMHC’s annual meeting:

"This is a dynamic time for the multifamily industry. The discussions and insights gained at the conference inform our navigation of the multifamily housing landscape. From affordability to emerging technology, each theme and detail informs our strategies and initiatives. At Continental Properties, we remain laser-focused in our commitment to driving innovation and excellence, leveraging data-driven approaches to strengthen our business, and elevating the customer experience."
