Kenosha, Here We Come!

[fa icon="calendar"] Feb 12, 2016 3:35:00 PM / by Jean Jones

The team at Bridlewood wished us a fond farewell and we shoved off to our next designation. Kenosha, Wisconsin is located on the far southern border of the state. We took a nice, leisurely ride down US 45, rolling many quaint towns along the way.

Kenosha is another entry in our list of Potawatomi names. It is derived from gnozhe, which means "place of the pike". We assume that refers to the fish - either northern pike, the species that my brother used to try to catch (unsuccessfully) as a kid, or walleye pike, a staple of Wisconsin fish fries. Located on Lake Michigan, we imagine the Potawatomi found Kenosha to be a wonderful place, not only for the fishing, but also for the natural beauty.

Being a Friday when we rolled into town, we were tempted to find a good fish fry, but we had decided in advance that there were two places we had to visit. Though still in the pre-construction phase, Springs at Kenosha is located right behind The Brat Stop. Bratwurst may be the official sausage of Wisconsin, so this place was a must. We also sampled from their large selection of cheeses, and listened to a little live music. Next we headed to Tenuta's, a Kenosha landmark. This old-school Italian deli has been around since 1920. It is filled with Italian specialties that make your mouth water. Definitely worth the visit!

Our food-filled Kenosha stop provided plenty of fuel for the next leg, so we turned our sights "south of the border" to Illinois.

WHERE ARE WE NOW?
