Continental Properties in partnership with three Tucson neighborhood associations’ hosts sculpture unveiling of “Raindrop” at Rillito Crossing Marketplace
Continental Properties in partnership with the Limberlost, Campus Farm, and Amphi Neighborhood Association hosted a sculpture unveiling of Raindrop at Rillito Crossing Marketplace on Saturday, July 26th. The marketplace is located on the NE Corner of First Avenue and Limberlost Road.
Continental wanted to incorporate a unique feature into the development and worked with the three neighborhood associations to decide what the feature should be. Association members decided to have a sculpture as part of the development and selected nationally renowned Tucson artist, Nick Burke, to create and design a piece to represent the local community. Burke sculpted Raindrop, which is located on the north side of the development. He describes the sculpture as a “meditation of the preciousness of the water cycle in the desert environment” and as “ ‘water spirit’ with a DNA double helix wisp at the top as a reference to water being one of the essential keys to life.”
Karin Uhlich, Ward 3 City Council Member who represents the three neighborhood associations, commends Continental Properties on their collaboration with community on the development. "I applaud Continental Properties and the Campus Farm, Limberlost and Amphi Neighborhoods for collaborating to bring forth the Rillito Crossing Marketplace. This infill project creates density that respects the existing neighborhood, integrates a cornerstone sculpture by area artist Nick Burke, and offers all of us a model for responsible development. "
